Our Mother's Day Blog 2.0 features Susan Fleming, Beth's mum. Again, we've asked a series of questions to get to know a little about Susan and her life. Her modesty definitely shines through...😂

Tell us about yourself...

Hi, my name is Susan Fleming, and I am 64 years old (hey, if you have seen me, you would never guess hahahaha). I am the eldest child of nine living siblings (there could have been 13 of us). I have 3 brothers, 5 sisters and they all live in the UK. I am the only one here in Australia. I was born in London under the sound of Bow Bells (a true cockney) in 1957. I had Polio in 1959 at the age of 2 and now have a weakened right leg but still always held down a good job and have never let that stop me trying anything in my life. I lived in England until I met my now husband Dermot and we moved to Ireland. We then eventually immigrated to Australia in 2004. After we settled in Australia, I became more of a Party Plan Consultant and over the years have been quite successful at this, travelling the world extensively with my husband on many all-expenses paid trips. I currently run an Adult Toy Party Plan Business and enjoy helping all with sex problems and questions where I can.

I have 6 children 3 Boys and 3 Girls, Beth Hayes founder and creator of Empire Copper alongside her Husband Cam is my daughter. I have 9 grandchildren, who along with my children, are all over the world.

Tell us about your mum...

My mum, Johanna (Josie) is 84 years old. She is 1 of 13 children (again that could have been 18); mind blowing! My mum was born in Tipperary, Ireland she met my dad Bill in London and married him at 18. We have such a large family, mum has in excess of 40 great-grandchildren now! Everyone loves mum she is a strong woman and a forceful personality at times but kind and caring and I can talk to her about anything which is something I love; nothing fazes her she pulls the family together. She taught us to always tell the truth, no matter how hard it can always be sorted if we were truthful from the start, something I taught my own family as they grew up.

Tell us your favourite thing about being a mum...

My favourite thing about being a mum has been and still is watching how my children have grown to love and respect not only myself and their father but also each other. We all have each other’s backs all the time and in a large family that is unique as we are spread out around the world.

Tell us about Beth...

Beth is exceptionally caring as they all are, she loves without fault and is beautiful and clever. She is very strong willed and does like her own way, not shy of telling you if your wrong but always willing to help. Cam and herself have worked tirelessly at building their business together, as well as getting married last year building their first home all while working full-time jobs; extraordinary feat, and congratulations to both. They are well suited, but Beth is the Boss lol Dad and I love you both so much.

Tell us your favourite Empire Copper piece...

Everything Empire Copper have made to date is modern, unique and every piece is different and endlessly beautiful. My favourites are the Copper Clocks, each one painstakingly patinated by Cam and all unique in their own way. I also love the Copper Goblets (as I like to call them).

Use code: SUSAN for 20% off Susan's favourite piece, our Hammered Stemless Copper Wine Glasses. Valid until Mother's Day 2022.
